On of the most difficult thing to do if your hips, knees or legs are suffering, is to get in and out of the bath.
But a walk in bath solves that problem, a door in the side of the bath opens and allows you to easily step in and out of the bath.
This also makes taking a bath a lot safer too. Slipping while getting in the bath is quite common and if you are not as nimble as you used to be this could be a big problem.
Walk in bath tubs come in two main shapes, a short tall bath or a normal size long bath each have a door in the side or front which opens and allows you to easily walk into the bath and then fill it with water.
Which type of bath you chose will depend upon your mobility.
The tall short walk in bath tub has a seat and you remain seated while in the bath, this obviously makes it much easier to get in and out and most baths some with sturdy handles to help you support yourself.
Whereas the long walk in bath is the same as a normal bath which you would lie down in.
If getting up and down is not a problem and if you like to lie down and relax in the bath then the long would work out well. These walk in baths have a small door in the side which allows you to enter and exit.
One of the main things that people fear about the walk in bath is leaking water.
Over the years great improvements have been made and the seals on the doors of most walk in baths are guaranteed not to leak. You will notice that most walk in bathtubs have doors which open inward. This means that the water pressure from the bath actually forces the door shut and the more water in the bath the more weight is keeping the door shut.
The doors also have a waterproof rubber seal all the way round and some even have a drain plug at the bottom of the boor frame just incase and water leaks out. But really....leaking is no longer a problem with walk in baths and if you are thinking about getting one go and see some in operation in a showroom.
Another solution, if you want to lie down in the bath, is to get a bath lift fitted to your walk in bath.
There are a number of bath lifts available, the one pictured here is made from durable material and will simply lower you into the bath and then as you roll in the material it will lift you back to a seated position.
Many companies supply walk in baths and have full information about the specification on their web sites.
