Sleep Number beds are manufactured by a company called Select Comfort. And the phrase "Sleep Number" refers to the setting that you chose for the firmness of the mattress.

The sleep number bed uses a unique patented technology which allows the user to adjust the firmness of the bed.

This allows you to adjust the bed to the firmness which suits you exactly, and as each side of the bed can be adjusted independently, you and your partner can have different settings if one of you prefers a firmer or softer matters.

This picture shows that the sleep number bed has no springs, instead the firmness of the mattress is adjusted buy filling or deflating a series of air pockets at the base of the bed.

The bed then has a layer of foam and is topped with another layer of memory foam (This is an option}

The sleep number bed is possibly one of the most adjustable beds you can get, many hotels use sleep number beds because of the quality.

Another thing to keep in mind is that because the bed has no springs then it is not likely to sag over time.
